Bio-inspiration aims to replicate key design principles and features in order to enhance the design. It is relatively close to the terms biomimicry and biomimetics and differs from them in replicating the designs of biological models.

 

Bio-inspired design is the exact imitation of biological structures, mechanics, forms and features. Bio-inspired design is often an exact replication of morphological and behavioural adaptations of organisms by imitating their forms and movements. Bio-inspired design is creative and aesthetic yet functional and innovative.
